Corruption stands in Pakistan’s way to progress: Altaf
LONDON: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Thursday said that Pakistan could only progress if nepotism, dishonesty, corruption, loot, bribery, cheating were eliminated.

He said this during a meeting with Mustafa Azizabadi & Muhammad Ashfaq, in-charge and joint in-charge respectively of MQM International Secretariat in London.

He said merit system had ceased to exist in Pakistan and appointments in government departments were being done on basis of nepotism, personal likes, dislikes due to which all government institutions and departments were in a state of decline.

Hussain felt country's future could brighten only if nepotism, corruption, cheating, loot were eliminated, judiciary made independent and kept away from personal likes and dislikes. He said it was equally necessary that decisions of parliament were motivated by general public welfare instead of protecting interests of majority. Majority party should keep national interest above party interest and work for betterment of people of Pakistan.

He advised MQM International Secretariat office bearers to convey to MQM Co-ordination Committee, elected representatives create awareness among masses as to how country could make advancement. It is due to truthfulness, honesty that message of MQM was spreading throughout the country. People know MQM tickets in elections are given purely on merit. Co-ordination Committee takes final decision after interviewing names recommended by units, sectors. Family relations are never considered while awarding party tickets, he added. (PPI)
