Karachi Arts Council election results announced

KARACHI: The names of the newly elected office bearers and members of the governing body for the Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) for 2016 were announced at a ceremony here on Thursday. Prof. Aijaz Farooqui was declared president.

Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, who was the chief guest on the occasion announced names of the office bearers and members of the governing body elected in the elections held on December 20.

After the ACP elections on December 20 the process of vote count had been postponed after some unwanted interference. Later, the counting was carried out on December 29 and 30 under the supervision of Sindh High Court (LHC).

The announcement of the elected office bearers and members of the governing body for the ACP was formally made in the light of SHC verdict.

The elections were contested by members represented by Ahmed Shah Aijaz Farooqui and Shehr-e-Quaid panels.

According to the results, Prof. Aijaz Farooqui bagged 1,647 votes and declared president; Prof. Sehr Ansari Vice President with 1,579 votes; Dr Huma Mir Secretary with 1,414 votes; Adthar Waqar Azeem Joint Secretary with 1,678 votes; Shehnaz Siddiqui Treasurer with 1,641 votes.

The elected governing body members are: Talat Hussain (1,719 votes); Hasina Moin (1,630 votes); Qudsia Akbar (1,586 votes); S.M. Qaiser Sajjad (1,578 votes); Iqbal Latif (1565 votes); Kashif Grami (1,518 votes), Sohail Ahmed (1,476 votes); Munawar Saeed (1,460 votes); Syed Saadat Jafri (1,436 votes); Syed Sajid Hassan (1,395 votes); Shaikh Rashid Alam (1,299 votes) and Tajdar Adil (1,284 votes).
