Gooch terms Pakistan ‘dangerous’, capable of lifting WC
DUBAI: Former English captain Graham Gooch on Monday said that Pakistani cricket players are talented and the team is capable of lifting the upcoming World Cup being held in Australia and New Zealand.

Speaking exclusively to Geo News, he said Indian side was also dangerous, but they do not perform as well abroad as in home conditions.

The great English batsman declared Australia and South Africa as favourites to lift the trophy.

“I’ve seen them [Pakistan] during Test series against Aussies in United Arab Emirates… they made big scores there,” said Gooch.

“They are a dangerous side which possesses great talent and are capable of making upsets [in the World Cup],” he added.

Gooch, who captained the England team in the 1992 World Cup, said that his side played exceptionally well during that tournament, but the Pakistani side proved better in the final.

He said Pakistan is clearly not the favourite to win the tournament, but it is fully capable of making an upset.

“Australia and South Africa are two sides that are playing really well at the moment and to me are favourites to win the tournament,” said the former cricketer.

“India is also a dangerous team, but in foreign conditions they are not as effective,” he added.
