Over 300 ghost employees at Fisherman Co-operative Society
KARACHI: Investigators revealed on Tuesday, that almost 50 percent of the staff employed by the Fisherman Co-operative Society (FCS) exists only on paper.

In Pakistan the concept of ghost-employees has been used by many to siphon funds into their own accounts. Similarly, out of 650 employees of the Fisherman Co-operative Society more than 300 have been found to be ghost-employees.

Investigators have seized records of the ghost-employees and have also discovered that bribes were being collected from local and international firms by contractors which were then forwarded to the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Society. The Law enforcement agencies are conducting raids to apprehend the contractors involved.

Corruption at the FCS came to light after Rangers detained the society’s Vice Chairman Sultan Qamer Siddiqui who was quick to spill the beans regarding extortion, corruption, bribes, hired hands including admission that monies received were delivered to Bilawal House and the top leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

On instructions from the FIA, the Fisherman Co-operative Society has stopped salaries and allowances of all ghost employees.
