No increase in petrol prices in January, announces PM
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday announced that there would be no increase in petroleum products from the start of the new year.

The Premier announced this while addressing the inauguration ceremony of National Health Programme here today. Ogra had forwarded a recommendation summary for approval of increase in petroleum prices by more than Rs 2 per litre.

According to the summary sent to the Ministry of Petroleum, OGRA had recommended that petrol price be increased by Rs2.17 to Rs78.43 per litre. However, the summary had proposed reduction in prices of other petroleum products.

It had proposed a decline in the rate of diesel by Rs5.93 to Rs77.86 a litre; kerosene oil by Rs7.92 to Rs48.25 and; High Octane Blending Component (HOBC) by Rs4.33 a litre.

"It is now the government's responsibility to ensure medical treatment for underprivileged families. We will try to further improve the national health program," said the prime minister speaking at the launch ceremony of the National Health Program in Islamabad.

He said that health and education were provincial matters and they should fulfill their responsibilities, however, the Centre was also ensuring that every possible assistance is available to them.
