ISLAMABAD: A former official of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) was arrested for issuing a fake identity card to Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Mansour who was killed in a drone attack last week.
Sources in the Federal Investigation Agency revealed that former assistant director NADRA Ghulam Muhammad has been arrested for issuing a fake identity card to Mullah Mansour.
Mullah Mansour was holding a Pakistani passport under the fake name Wali Muhammad. Using that passport he had traveled several times to Dubai and Iran.
Wali Muhammad was issued an identity card in 2002. The identity card mentioned his permanent address in Chaman and present address in Karachi, a source told Geo News.
Former assistant director NADRA had retired from his post in 2007.
Earlier this week Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar held a high level meeting with NADRA officials. During the meeting he expressed his displeasure over issuance of fake identity cards. “Illegal CNICs has caused us to face an emergency-like situation,” he said speaking to the media after the meeting.
Nisar had confirmed that Nadra blocked over 0.23 million suspicious national identity cards in past five years. Either these CNICs were issued to foreigners or Pakistanis.
NADRA issued Pakistani CNICs to 21 Chinese citizens, 29 Indians, 236 Iranians, one American, 111 Bengali and Burmese, seven Moroccan, three Uzbeks, two Maldivians, one Senegal citizen, 13 Egyptian and around 40, 000 Afghans got Pakistani cards, official documents exclusively obtained by The News revealed.
