LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan on Thursday announced that the board will send a legal notice to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for not honouring its commitment to play a series with Pakistan.

In 2014, both boards had signed an agreement to play a total of six series, four of whom were supposed to be hosted by Pakistan.

According to the deal, the first series was scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in UAE in 2015 but no series has taken place yet due to the political tension between the two countries.

Talking to the media in Lahore, Shahryar said that PCB has suffered heavy financial losses as India refused to play any series with Pakistan.

“We have a strong case. We will first send a [legal] notice to Indian board and then we will contact ICC committee to resolve the issue”, he added.

PCB chairman said that the board suffered Rs1 million financial losses for not playing against India.

He said that there was no chance of India-Pakistan series at the moment, adding that the issue will be raised in ICC meeting due to be held next month.

Shahryar said that he will no longer remain associated with PCB after August this year and will not seek an extension.

“I have also informed Prime Minister about my decision as well”, he added.

The cricket-mad countries have not played a bilateral series since 2007, however, Pakistan travelled to India for a three-match ODI series in 2011-2012.

Last year, there were talks about staging a series in Sri Lanka but BCCI backed out from its commitment after not getting clearance from the Indian government.
