RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) GT Road rally was a conspiracy to pressurise state institutions.

He said this in an address to a rally held by the party along with Awami Muslim League (AML) in Liaquatbagh.

The PTI chief lashed out former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, saying Nawaz is asking the reason for his disqualification when he had earlier said he would accept any decision by the Supreme Court.

“This entire drama by Nawaz Sharif is to pressurise [state institutions]. He is talking against Supreme Court, JIT and NAB,” he said.

Imran said that only those people are standing besides Nawaz who have vested interests in the corrupt setup.

Earlier, kicking off the rally, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s took a jibe at the former premier Nawaz Sharif for asking why he was disqualified from his office.

“You ask why you were removed. You were disqualified because you looted national exchequer,” he said.

Heavy rain had started to pour in before the start of the rally. AML leader Sheikh Rasheed while speaking to media said that the rally will take place as per schedule.

Rasheed, while calling it a 'historic rally', said that the country's history will change today.

He said that the crowd aren't 'rented' people but devoted friends of his and the PTI chief Imran.

Arrangements for twenty thousand audience members have been made at the city's famous Liaquat Bagh, which has witnessed several political gatherings.

A fireworks display to celebrate the Independence Day commenced at 12:01AM.

Strict security arrangements have been made at the venue, with only a single entry and exit point for the public.
