AJK MLA, seven others drown after car falls into drain

AZAD KASHMIR: Member of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Muhammad Ishaq and seven others drowned after a car fell into a drain near Sakakas area of Nakyal on Sunday.

The car was travelling from Khoi Ratta sector to Nakyal when it met with the accident due to fast currents in the drain and a heavy downpour, the police said.

Local administration officials and soldiers of the Pakistan Army took part in the rescue operation to recover the eight bodies.

Among the deceased are two brothers and three nephews of MLA Ishaq, the police said. 

Twelve people, including two women, of a family, drowned at Hawkesbay Beach in Karachi late Saturday afternoon. 

The family had come to the beach for a picnic and was staying at Hut 99, which belongs to a private company.

A worker of the Edhi rescue team informed that lifeguards were also present at the site however the family members dismissed those claims.

SP Keamari informed Geo News that the family was warned four times to not go too deep into the water but the family members continued to defy orders.
