CHAKWAL: Four people were killed and one seriously injured after a trailer overturned on the motorway in Kallar Kahar, Geo News reported Thursday morning.

According to officials of the National Highways and Motorway Police, the accident occurred around 5am due to over-speeding and resultant failing of the vehicle's brakes.

The accident occurred in the Salt Range area — a frequent site of road accidents on the motorway due to its steep slopes and frequent curves.

Sources said the deceased include driver Mazhar Abbas, Abid Hussain, Khurram Shahzad and Malik Mehboob.

Moreover, Mohammad Shafiq was identified as the critically injured person.

Sources said the trailer was transporting explosive material from Wah to Lahore and personnel of a 'security agency' were on board.

The Kallar Kahar police have registered a case and are investigating.

On Tuesday, fourteen people were killed and six injured when a van crashed into a trailer near Chakri on the motorway.

Officials had said the incident occurred after the driver of the van, travelling from Jhang to Rawalpindi, fell asleep at the wheel.

The van also caught fire after the accident and was obliterated since it was running on CNG.
