A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Rs100 million prize for the heads of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone, the director and lead actress of the film Padmavati.

Suraj Pal Amu also threatened Ranveer Singh, who plays a villain in the film, that he will break his legs for working in the movie.

"If you (Ranveer Singh) do not take back your words, we will break your legs,” he said, besides other slurs.

The BJP leader praised those announcing head money earlier, saying they will be rewarded by him.

"I want to congratulate the Meerut youth for announcing Rs 5 crore bounty for beheading Deepika, and Bhansali. We will reward the ones beheading them, with Rs 10 crore, and also take care of their family's needs," he said further, according to reports in the Indian media.

Padmavati has been mired in several controversies: many Rajput groups have alleged that the film has objectionable scenes of Queen Padmavati and Emperor Alauddin Khilji and has tampered with historical facts.

The film has been making headlines months before its release in December, which was recently postponed due to the incessant controversy.

Various Indian celebrities and actors have come out in support of the film, including Salman Khan and Shabana Azmi.
