Father Todd of St Patrick’s High School passes away in Karachi

KARACHI: Father John Baptist Todd of St Patrick’s High School passed away at the age of 96 in the city Monday.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 3pm at the St Patrick's Cathedral after which he will be laid to rest at the Gora Qabristan.

Born in 1921 in Karachi he was named George. He studied at the University of Bombay (pre-partition) and later joined the Order of Friars Minor and took the name John Baptist. 

After he was ordained a priest, one of his first assignments was to teach at the  St. Patrick’s High School and later served as Vice-Principal till his retirement in 2005. While teaching he also studied privately and acquired a Bachelor of Arts and then a Masters degree from the University of Karachi. 

He had also served at schools in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Quetta. It was in Quetta where Father Todd survived an assassination attempt, after which he was brought to Karachi and was appointed as the assistant parish priest of St Anthony’s Church.
