Election 2018: Those who flipped

In political parlance, they are often referred to as “turncoats” or “lotas” and portrayed as opportunistic or disloyal. Voters, some argue, are often skeptical of party-hoppers and their motivations. Yet, there is very little evidence to confirm that a switch can hurt a politician’s vote bank in Pakistan.

It is not unusual for political leaders to jump ship close to the national election, especially if they can foresee their own party’s ship sinking. At the end of the day, it’s just politics.
