Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui who recently finished filming the Africa schedule of Sacred Games gave some insight into the second season of the popular Indian crime drama and said it will be better than the first.

“This season will be the baap of the first one. Even if people know Ganesh Gaitonde, they won’t know what to expect from him. We shot extensively across Mombasa, Cape Town and Johannesburg,” Siddiqui told Mid-Day.

Based on the 2006 novel by Vikram Chandra, Sacred Games is a thriller set in Mumbai with a cast of police officers, politicians and spies.

Siddiqui plays Ganesh Gaitonde, a criminal overlord who resurfaces after being in the hiding for more than 15 years. Police officer Sartaj (played by Saif Ali Khan) receives a call from Gaitonde, which leads him to unearth his hideout place in the heart of the Mumbai.

Despite the character of Gaitonde being killed in the first episode of the series, the rest of the first season told his story in flashback. Season two will further explore his tale, and his relationship with Pankaj Tripathi’s character, Guruji.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap will continue to direct Gaitonde’s story for the second season, while Neeraj Ghaywan (Masaan) will take over Sartaj Singh’s plot from Vikramaditya Motwane.

Sacred Games season two is expected to premiere by mid-2019.
