SHARJAH: Defending champions Islamabad United suffered a blow to their Pakistan Super League campaign on Saturday after batsman Ian Bell was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury.

A United official confirmed the news and said Bell would be flying back to England for his rehabilitation. A replacement for Bell will be named in due course.

The 36-year old batsman suffered the injury during his side’s warm-up match against Multan Sultans ahead of the league which also kept him out of initial games.

Despite the injury, Bell took the field on Friday against Peshawar Zalmi and scored 54 off 46, worsening his injury.

The batsman posted a picture of his injured leg on Twitter on late Saturday evening expressing his sadness over leaving the tournament.

“Absolutely gutted that my time with Islamabad United and PSL T20 will be cut short with an injury. It’s been so much fun with some great people. Staying to support the boys for next two games then back home to get everything sorted for an exciting summer coming up..” he tweeted.
