KARACHI: Opposition parties on Tuesday announced to boycott the Sindh Assembly proceedings for the next two days over the provincial government’s denial to allot Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairmanship to the opposition.

Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Firdous Shamim Naqvi told reporters earlier today that the opposition members will refuse to be part of the assembly’s standing committees and the protest will continue until their demands are met.

PTI leader Khurram Sher Zaman, reiterating the opposition’s demands, said that the provincial government knew that if PAC chairmanship was granted to the opposition then “its secrets would be out in the open.”

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan protested that the opposition members were no longer allowed to speak on the assembly, and that the sanctity of the Sindh Assembly was being breached.

Parliamentary leader Hasnain Mirza of the Grand Democratic Alliance pointed out water scarcity issues in Badin, lamenting that no one was raising their voice on the matter.

A tug of war has persisted in the Sindh Assembly for some days, with Monday’s session once again witnessing a walkout from the opposition parties over the PAC chairmanship.
