PM Khan terms IMF agreement 'best' deal

PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday termed a bailout agreement between Pakistan and International Monetary Fund the "best" deal.

The comment by the premier came during his meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet members here today. He said he would soon address the nation.

Vowing to never turn his back on the masses, PM Khan said he struggled against this "rotten system" for 22 years and the political mafia, which had thrived on the old system, wanted to create impediments in the way of a new system.

"This corrupt political mafia wants to blackmail [the government] on the pretext of economy," he told the participants of the meeting.

Referring to the prevailing condition of the economy, the prime minister said from the very first day he had been hinting at tough days ahead as the government had inherited a record fiscal deficit.

He said the brotherly countries, including Saudi Arabia, UAE and China, had extended urgent assistance to provide a breathing space to the economy and the government was thankful for their gesture.

PM Khan hoped that the situation would soon improve with the increase in exports and remittances.

Foreign investment would also go up consequent to the government's ongoing measures, he added.
