FAISALABAD: A woman was beaten in public here on the city's outskirts after a feudal lord allegedly claimed that she had engaged in illicit activities with a man, according to a video that went viral on social media on Tuesday.

Aqib (alias Kali), the feudal landlord of 106 Khichian village in Faisalabad's Chak Jhumra, had reportedly accused the woman — who is married — of taking part in inappropriate activities with her neighbour and ordered that as the punishment for her alleged indecent behaviour, she be beaten with a stick in public.

On the other hand, the woman's father-in-law, Saleem, explained that the feudal lord had accused his daughter-in-law of having an extramarital relationship with his neighbour but had them beaten as punishment as well.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar took notice of the condemnable incident of violence against women (VAW) and sought a report over the incident from the regional police officer (RPO), Ghulam Mehmood Dogar.

Consequently, Chak Jhumra police arrested at least two suspects, including Aqib (alias Kali), the feudal landlord, and initiated an investigation.
