ISLAMABAD: After the joint Opposition won the vote of no-confidence and successfully ousted Imran Khan from power, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif Sunday met former president Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari at the Bilawal House in Islamabad to discuss the current political situation in the country.

During the meeting, the PPP leadership congratulated Shahbaz and thanked him for his efforts in his capacity as the leader of the Opposition to ensure the success of the no-confidence motion.

The PPP leaders also embraced Shahbaz as they welcomed him.

The two sides discussed electoral reforms and pledged to work together in the public interest.

During the meeting, PPP Information Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi and PPPP Information Secretary Shazia Marri were also present. On the other hand, Shahbaz was accompanied by senior PML-N leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique, Ayaz Sadiq, and Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Earlier in the day, Shahbaz, who is the joint Opposition candidate, submitted his nomination papers at the National Assembly Secretariat to contest the re-election for the slot of the prime minister.

On the other hand, PTI's Shah Mahmood Qureshi also submitted his papers for the same slot.

The NA announced that the nomination papers of both candidates were scrutinised, after which they were accepted.

The prime minister’s slot fell vacant after Imran Khan was ousted through a no-confidence vote after the NA debated on the matter for more than 12 hours and the political situation in the country took a critical turn on Saturday.

The NA session to elect the new leader of the House will convene at 2pm tomorrow (Monday).
