Punjab denied kite-flying festival of 'Basant' this year
LAHORE: The residents of Lahore in particular and Punjab in general will not be able to indulge in the revelries of traditional kite-flying festival of Basant this year, Geo News reported

The caretaker chief minister of Punjab, Najam Sethi tweeted this bad news on the social networking website "Twitter" around Saturday midnight.

He said some legal hitches stood between the kite-flying enthusiasts and their beloved merrymaking spring festival, thus it was not possible for him to make an exception, though he tried his best.

He even apologized to the residents of Punjab for not being able to let them celebrate Basant.

At the start of the April it was reported that Punjab government was likely to announce Basant on April 13-14 after the approval of the caretaker chief minister, however nods from other stakeholders were yet to be received.

In an earlier statement Najam Sethi had said that consultations were underway and a final decision would be taken soon. However, he ultimately lost the case.
