Meghan Markle gets real about life before 'Suits'

Meghan Markle has opened up about the early days of struggle in her career.

The Duchess of Sussex released the latest episode of her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast on May 20. Meghan welcomed her former stylist-turned-CEO of hair and beauty brand Cassandra Morales Thurswell for a conversation.

Speaking to Cassandra, Meghan, who is famously known for her role in the Suits, recalled the time when she was “auditioning” for various roles and turned to the stylist for wardrobe help.

Meghan said, “I said, ‘Cassie, can you help make this stylish and give me a vibe?' To which you said, ‘Yes.'”

“I had no idea what I was doing, but I really enjoyed our time together - it was so fun,” Cassandra added.

However, Prince Harry’s wife referred to that time “pre-suits” adding, “This is really early days when I was auditioning. And I just remember literally going through things, and you think, ‘Okay, here are a couple staples that you need.'”

“This is important because it speaks to … you talk about not having a strategy, but always hustling. And being able to say, ‘Okay, well, I don't necessarily know how to do this, but I'm gonna figure out a way to be good at it,'” the Duchess of Sussex added.

Meghan Markle, wife of Prince Harry, who launched Confessions Of a Female Founder podcast on April 8, 2025, discusses the experiences of female entrepreneurs in the podcast. She also talks about her own entrepreneurial journey with her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

Meghan then recalled the shoes she wore for her Suits audition, telling Cassandra, “You called me and said, ‘I just found the best pair of black patent leather Louboutin wedge flats and they are $200' I remember going, ‘I cannot,' and you were like, ‘I promise you, you are going to wear them.'”

“And of course, I wore those shoes until the red wore out. I wore those shoes on my final audition for Suits when I booked the part,” Meghan added.

Meghan Markle played the role of Rachel Zane in Suits for seven seasons from 2011 to 2018. She married the youngest son of King Charles, Prince Harry in 2018.
