Lorde, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, has opened up about her decision to stop taking birth control.

While promoting her album Virgin on Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, the songstress candidly discussed the reasons behind her decision.

“I just need to see what happens when I come off it,” she began. “I don’t know It was just a general band aid rip that I need to do at. It was quite gnarly not going to lie. It was so crazy, so crazy.”

For those unversed, Lorde had been on hormonal birth control since she was 15 but she went off birth controlling in 2023.

“I’m quite scarred from that and my mood was really crazy and I don’t know it can be a really crazy transition, but I also was like ‘oh I feel like myself in this different way and I still haven’t arrived at what the right thing for me is,” she added.

Referring to the impact of pills that prevent pregnancy by using their synthetic hormones to alter women’s natural hormones, the Ribs singer continued, "I keep I don’t know it’s been a whole journey the birth control. It’s sort of like no perfect solution but whatever you do you’re killing it.”

Before concluding, Lorde shared, “I’m proud of you for listening to your body because it’s quite hard to do. I only started listening to my body two years ago. I was like ‘wow, she’s telling me something.’”

The fourth studio album, Virgin, is set to be released on June 27, 2025.
