The blockbuster Avengers: Endgame is set to return to theaters on September 25 next year, a move timed to build excitement ahead of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which is slated to premiere on December 18, 2026.
Endgame, which raked in an astounding $2.799 billion globally, was the capstone of phase three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It saw every major MCU hero come together to stop Thanos as played by Josh Brolin.
Some fan-favorite arcs were concluded, making the re-release a nostalgic moment for longtime viewers and a way to refresh the story before Doomsday hits theaters.
The 2026 sequel promises big changes.
In a surprising twist, Robert Downey Jr., best known for playing Tony Stark/Iron Man, will appear as the villainous Dr. Doom.
The cast will also bring back familiar MCU heroes and introduce characters from recent Marvel entries such as Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and X‑Men.
For his part, actor Simu Liu, returning as his MCU character Shang‑Chi, expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with the sprawling cast.
“It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies,” he told ScreenRant.
He added that the film speaks to “all the misfits … and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow.”
With Endgame’s re-release coming first, Marvel fans will have the chance to relive a milestone before diving into what promises to be a bold, expansive new chapter.
