Katy Perry is not breathing fire in her latest music video – but she does unleash something just as dangerous.
The singer has dropped the cinematic visual for Watch It Burn, and it’s a haunting journey through pain, transformation and ultimately letting go.
The video opens with Perry being rushed into surgery after mysterious markings spread across her body. Just when doctors think they have everything under control, a scorpion tail suddenly bursts from her back, sending the operation room into chaos. Even and exorcism cannot stop what’s coming.
Once she escapes the hospital, Perry’s struggle turns symbolic. As she sings, "Don't wanna cause a scene / But give me the gasoline," the tail develops a mind of its own–smashing windows, torching buildings and leaving destruction wherever it goes.
Sharp-eyed fans will spot hidden messages throughout the video, including Gaslight Magazine, Slop Times, and signs reading, "Breaking News: Don't Believe Everything You Hear" and "Read Between the Headlines."
But the chaos is not about revenge.
By the final moments, Perry reaches a church where the mysterious power disappears after a baptism. The closing lyrics makes the message crystal clear: "Thank you / For showing me the pain / This was not a mistake / The mistake would be to stay."
According to the song’s creative notes, Watch It Burn is about releasing years of silence, people-pleasing and emotional baggage–not destroying others.
Even the scorpion tail serves as a metaphor for embracing every part of yourself without letting your darker side take control.
It’s eerie, emotional and packed with symbolism – proving Perry’s newest era is less about starting fires and more about finally putting the past to rest.
