Luca Guadagnino shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence after Amazon MGM Studios decided not to move forward with his movie Artificial.
Speaking at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy, the director said AI is becoming one of the biggest issues people are facing today because of how quickly it is changing everyday life.
Guadagnino did not want to speak about Amazon's decision to drop the film.
He explained that discussions about the project's future are still taking place.
"I cannot talk about it because we are right in the middle of this situation," he shared.
Instead, the Call Me by Your Name director spoke about artificial intelligence and the effect he believes it is having on society.
"AI is changing the identity of the world," he added, sharing that it is one of the defining topics of the modern age.
The star’s comments came only days after Amazon stepped away from Artificial, a movie which was inspired by the events surrounding OpenAI chief Sam Altman's removal and return to the company in 2023.
The film, however, stars Andrew Garfield as Altman and also features Monica Barbaro, Yura Borisov, Jason Schwartzman, Chris O'Dowd and Mark Rylance among its cast.
Although Amazon is no longer involved, the movie may still find a new way.
Reports say independent distributor Mubi is interested in releasing it, while talks about the project's future continue behind the scenes
