King Charles, who shares a close bond with his beloved daughter-in-law, decided to honour Princess Kate after she shared a positive update about her health.
Princess Kate was diagnosed with cancer just a month after Buckingham Palace had announced Charles’s cancer diagnosis. While Catherine is now in remission, the King continues to receive treatment.
However, given the timing of their health conditions, the two royals have grown closer and have shared their struggles with the disease. In a bid to raise awareness and to conquer a personal challenge of dealing with cancer, the royal had taken on a gruelling expedition to climb the highest peak in Scotland within 24 hours.
After sharing a lengthy message about the outing, which quickly became a source of inspiration for the public, the Palace gave Kate a nod on her latest accomplishment.
“Congratulations to The Princess of Wales,” the message from the King read.
Princess Kate explained that the reason that she took on the National Three Peaks Challenge was
“not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back”.
She noted that cancer tests one “physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually” and the “challenges ripple outwards, touching families, friendships, work and the quiet moments we spend alone with our thoughts”.
