Jennifer Lopez’s bold comment on breakup sparks fresh debate

Jennifer Lopez has a surprising idea for anyone nursing a broken heart: throw a party.

During her June 30 appearance on Subway Takes with Kareem Rahma, the singer and actress shared a refreshingly upbeat take on breakups, arguing that endings are often the beginning of something even better.

"Breakups are not a failure. I honestly feel like it’s a launchpad into your next best self. We should have a party when we break up!" Lopez said.

"People should say, 'You broke up? Congratulations,' because one, you made a decision. Two, it was probably the best thing for everybody."

The superstar did not stop there.

"If you're the one who's being heartbroken, you're the winner. Because if you go around your life and you're breaking hearts, let's say, you're a loser," she added, before admitting, "I've been on both sides. We all do that. But if you're that person, you're never learning anything."

For Lopez, heartbreak has always been the ultimate life lesson.

"I just feel like the biggest growth spurts I’ve had emotionally, mentally, psychologically have always come from a heartbreak," she explained. "And that’s not just in romantic relationships, that’s in work heartbreaks, all of it."

She also revealed what really matters when it comes to dating.

"I don't discriminate. I like skinny guys. I like a chunk around the middle," Lopez joked. "I like beards, I like clean shaven, it doesn't matter. It's the person inside."

Despite navigating several high-profile relationships–including her most recent marriage to Ben Affleck–Lopez has one firm rule once a romance is over. As she later put it, "Once I’m done, you’re dead to me."

It’s classic J.Lo: heal, glow… and don’t look back.
