Princess Kate's surprise high-five earns her a loving handwritten note

A five-year-old boy has delighted royal fans after sharing a handwritten note about an unforgettable moment he experienced while climbing one of England's highest mountains.

Young Thomas was making his way up Scafell Pike with his family when he unexpectedly crossed paths with the Princess of Wales, who was taking part in the demanding Three Peaks Challenge.

The youngster later proudly documented the encounter with a simple but heartwarming message: "Saw Princess Kate."

He added another excited line describing the surprise meeting: "Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, high fived me on the way up. She was doing 3 peaks night hike!!!!"

Princess Kate recently completed the Three Peaks Challenge, a gruelling endurance feat that involves climbing the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales. 

Her challenge was about her longstanding passion for the outdoors and her belief in the benefits of spending time in nature.

The future Queen has often spoken about how the natural world became a source of strength during her recovery from cancer, describing nature as a place of healing and renewal.
