Prince William hit with upsetting setback in important mission

Prince William, who has often been dubbed workshy given the number of his royal engagements, has been razor-focused on some key issues that the reign is facing.

The Prince of Wales’s approach to work has been to create a meaningful change in the society and take actions that actually make a difference rather than add up in a statistic.

There are two key projects that he has been currently working on: Earthshot Prize and Homewards. Both of them are inspired by the values that he was taught by his parents.

William started Homewards, to honour the empathy Princess Diana instilled in him for people who suffer from homelessness, to sufficiently tackle the housing crisis in the nation.

However, experts believe that despite pledges by William and the new prime minister Andy Burnham, it is tough task as homelessness is rising. This comes as the five-year Homewards programme enters its fourth year.

According to the latest report by The Observer, government figures indicate in four out of six UK locations where Prince William has spent the past three years trying to show how the problem can be solved, homelessness has increased.

Only in Newport, in south Wales, and the London borough of Lambeth were there concrete signs of improvement, and even there the figures are still high.

“Without enough genuinely affordable social homes, many families have nowhere to turn after being priced out of private renting, with little standing between them and homelessness,” Sarah Elliott, chief executive of Shelter, one of 300 organisations working with Homewards, said.

Meanwhile, Michael Corbishley, head of local delivery for Homewards, said that William’s project was helping to prevent some people reaching crisis point.

However, he did point out the uphill battle ahead, “Affordable housing is essential, which is why Homewards is delivering housing projects. But lasting change depends on combining more homes with prevention and support.”
