Taylor Swift shares surprising twist about songwriting after 20 years

Taylor Swift has been a singer-songwriter for over 20 years, and holds a singular position in the industry, yet there is no uniform formula to all her albums.

The 36-year-old pop superstar spoke about the inconsistencies found in her songs during the Icon Session at the Grammy Museum.

The Opalite hitmaker noted that fans often complain "‘I can’t believe the same person who wrote this, wrote this.’ Because one would be very simplistic and silly and one be like very detailed and deep — but I think human contradiction is fun, I think its fun to make playful songs, I think it's fun to make songs that are desolate and lonely and just bedraggled lyrically as well. And it's human contradiction that I find interesting.”

Swifties flocked to the comments and responded, "this is actually the reason why her songwriting stands out from other artists, because she’s pretty much the only one who’s not afraid to experiment with it. she knows how to write so many types of songs, her songwriting never stays within the same lane, and it’s something that pretty much no other mainstream singer-songwriter has managed to accomplish."
