Prince George ‘not following' key royal tradition as Eton journey begins

Prince William and Princess Kate will be witnessing a major milestone of their eldest son in a matter of days as the family undergoes a major shift.

Prince George, who recently turned 13, will be walking through the gates of Eton College – the same school as his father Prince William – next week. However, this is not just a royal tradition that George will be following, but instead this is a much bigger step for him than it was for William.

The future monarch has a tough challenge ahead of him even with all the resources at his disposal, according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond.

She explained that this not just about George following and keeping the royal tradition of Eton alive but rather about knowing what is the best option for him.

“This isn’t about William. It’s about George and where he will be happy and safe – particularly in this age when everyone has a camera phone,” Bond told The Mirror. “Eton protected and nurtured William and Harry. It will do the same for George, and probably, eventually, Louis.”

She added that it is “much more of a big step for George” as he had the comfort and security of his home and now he would be moving away. Though, it is not a bad deal for the young prince as many of his friends are understood to be going to Eton with him.

Moreover, Forest Lodge, the Waleses ‘forever home’, is nearby which is a comfort knowing he can pop in any time.

“And I’m certain William and Catherine wouldn’t send him to Eton unless George was completely happy with the idea,” he said. “Several of his school friends are moving up with him, and, like William, he will probably forge some wonderful friendships which will stay with him for life.”
