Kate Hudson and Danny Fujikawa are engaged but the couple ahs no plans to get married anytime soon.
The Song Sung Blue actress, 47, talked about her wedding plan with her lover on the recent episode of her Sibling Rivalry podcast with brother Oliver Hudson.
She’s been with musician Danny, 40, since 2017, and they got engaged in 2021. The couple share 7-year-old daughter Rani, born in October 2018.So why the holdup? For Kate, it comes down to money and guest lists.
“That’s part of why I don’t want to get married—it’s too expensive,” she said. “I just want hors d’oeuvres. I wanna do, like, chips and salsa.”
Kate, who’s also mom to son Ryder, 22, with ex Chris Robinson, and son Bingham, 15, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, elucidated her family makes a small ceremony impossible.
“I still am not married. I’m just engaged, and I keep thinking about wedding, like what are we gonna do,” she explained.
“And then every time we start thinking about who we have to invite, Danny’s like, ‘I just want a small wedding.’ I’m like, ‘Our family alone is like 50 people.’”
“There’s a million kids,” she added. “There’s a million uncles and aunts and cousins.”
Oliver, 50, chimed in with his own wedding philosophy. He and wife Erinn Bartlett got married in Mexico in 2006 with just 80 guests — and some strict rules.
“My wedding was controversial with my wife, because we did it in Mexico,” he recalled.
“We only had 80 people. I did not want to meet anyone at my wedding for the first time. So, I said to Erin, ‘Look, your girlfriends from high school—I get it, they’re your girlfriends, but, I’m sorry, the husbands can’t come.'”
“Maybe I’m an a–hole,” Oliver continued, “but I don’t want to be like, ‘Congratulations,’ ‘Hi, what’s your name? Doug? Really nice to meet you.'”
Kate has hinted at this before. Earlier, in an interview past year, she admitted she and Danny may never actually tie the knot.
For now, it sounds like engagement works just fine — no venue, no 200-person headcount, and definitely no catering bill.
