Princess Leonor commands attention at Formula 1 following new university chapter

King Felipe was joined by Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía for a speedy royal outing on Sunday for the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.

Fresh from travelling to Oslo for the state funeral of King Harald, Felipe returned to Spain in time for one of the country’s biggest sporting occasions and brought his two daughters along for the ride.

The King, Leonor and Sofía watched the action from the paddock, where they also met two of Spain’s most celebrated racing stars, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz.

Queen Letizia was not present, leaving Felipe and his daughters to take centre stage.

The outing also came at an important moment for the young royals, with both preparing to return to their university routines.

Leonor, who is studying Political Science at Carlos III University of Madrid, the Grand Prix was a stylish appearance before the next stage of her academic year.

The Royal Household confirmed ahead of the event that Felipe would attend the race with Leonor and Sofía.
