Queen Mary laughs off surprise mishap during design awards

Queen Mary has spent more than two decades in royal life, but even she has had her share of unexpected moments.

Long before becoming Queen, the Australian-born royal attended the Danish Design Awards in 2018, where she presented 12 prizes celebrating some of the country’s leading designers and creative talents.

For the occasion, Mary looked beautiful in a deep green co-ordinated outfit by Mark Kenly Domino Tan, pairing wide-leg trousers with a fluid matching top. 

The prestigious event, held at Copenhagen’s Bellevue Theatre, also saw five talented creatives receive travel scholarships, while Mary had the honour of presenting the coveted Designer of the Year award to architect Lars Vejen.

But amid the polished photographs and glamorous fashion moments, Mary also found herself at the centre of an amusing on-stage mishap.

While posing for photographs with one of the winners, the plaque unexpectedly slipped from its wooden presentation box and landed on the stage floor. 

She was visibly caught off guard, opening her mouth in surprise as the award fell.

Rather than letting the blunder interrupt the occasion, the royal simply laughed it off. 

The plaque was quickly retrieved and put back in place with Mary's help.
