Aaron Dessner reveals shocking story behind Taylor Swift's 'folklore'

Taylor Swift and Aaron Dessner brought magic back to the lives of music fans during the Covid-19 pandemic, with their albums folklore and evermore.

The 36-year-old pop superstar collaborated with Jack Antonoff, Justin Vernon and The National on the album and all via online communication.

Sharing the process behind the album, the Pink Rabbits hitmaker recalled, “I mean, it was a text, first of all. It was March or April of 2020. We had met Taylor, and I think she was really a fan of the band [The National]. And when COVID hit, she reached out and said like, ‘Hey, it’s Taylor. Would you ever consider collaborating remotely?’ She just said, ‘Send me anything.’"

Dessner continued, "I had been really working on a lot of music because a year before that, Justin [Vernon of Bon Iver] had asked me like, ‘Hey, I want you to open the Bon Iver tour by yourself.’ So I’d been making all these things in the months before COVID hit. So I had a whole folder, and I just sent the Dropbox folder to Taylor. And like 3 a.m. that night, she sent back Cardigan fully written. Like, holy shit! Like, what’s happening? I felt like a high school basketball player suddenly was on a team with Michael Jordan.”
