Fans criticises Madonna's pricey pink veil merch before VMAs comeback

Madonna is facing pushback from fans after her online store began selling a small square of pink fabric for £40, roughly $54, just ahead of her highly anticipated return to the VMAs stage. 

The item, listed as a 58-inch sheer pink veil featuring a "custom Madonna graphic tag" in one corner, echoes the pink veil Madonna wore on the cover of her recent No. 1 album, Confessions II. 

Fans quickly criticised the price, with shipping fees adding an additional £5.54 on top of the base cost. 

One fan joked online, "Madonna really said, 'Why buy sheer pink voile for $3.99 a yard when you can buy it from me for $45 with a tiny tag sewn on it?'"

The pricing controversy comes as Madonna, 68, prepares for her first VMAs performance since 2003, when she famously kissed both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera onstage during a medley of Like a Virgin and Hollywood. 

This year, she enters the ceremony as the most-nominated artist, with 11 nods tied to Confessions II. 

There's been growing speculation that she may perform alongside collaborators from the album during Sunday night's show in Los Angeles, following a public reconciliation with at least one previous collaborator that included a joint appearance at Paris Fashion Week in June and a shared club night afterward.
