Troye Sivan reveals muse behind ‘She's the Best'

Troye Sivan lifts the lid on the personal experiences that inspired his song She’s the Best.

During a new interview with Apple Music, the Rush hitmaker reflected on the songwriting process behind his newly released lead single and title track of upcoming album.

“The kind of safety and protection that I felt from women that I haven't felt from men, like, you know, always,” he described, explaining that the song grew out of something he had recognized throughout his life

“During the songwriting process when we were writing She’s the Best, I was like, oh, this has been like a constant in my life from day one,” the Angel Baby singer said that realisation became particularly clear while writing the song. “Those are the people that have really had my back.”

For him, that feeling extends beyond individual friendships. He explained that he feels most comfortable when he is surrounded by women, describing himself as happiest when he is “existing in the orbit of a woman.”

He then recalled several women he has worked alongside throughout his career, including Ariana Grande, Lily-Rose Depp, Charli XCX and Nicole Kidman, as examples of the creative and social environments in which he feels particularly at ease.

Sivan also connected that feeling to memories from his younger years, recalling how he would get ready for house parties and spend time with his female friends as they prepared to go out.

“I would get ready in like five minutes at home early and then go and just watch the girls get ready and we were just like talk and hang out and whatever,” the YOUTH singer recalled.

Notably, Sivan’s fourth studio album, She’s the Best, is scheduled to arrive on October 9.

The album’s title track was released on August 14 alongside a music video featuring Kidman, while the second single, Party, samples Madonna’s 2000 hit Music and includes a voice cameo from Sir Ian McKellen.
