Prince Edward raises toast to King Charles at birthday celebrations

King Charles’ birthday was celebrated in grand style in Washington.

The British Ambassador’s Residence hosted a glittering evening bringing together prominent figures from across British and American life.

They shared a series of details from the celebration on X, describing it as a special occasion to honour the King while celebrating the longstanding relationship between the UK and US.

Guests from the worlds of arts, heritage, education, business and defence gathered at the residence for the evening.

The celebrations featured plenty of British touches, including a military band, British beef and lamb and English sparkling wine.

A special projection was also displayed across the residence, lighting up the building and making the celebration visible from Massachusetts Avenue.

The evening also had a royal presence, with Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, joining guests for the festivities.

Sharing images and details from the event, the British Embassy wrote: “A celebration fit for a King!”

Prince Edward also presented Gold Awards at a special ceremony held at the British Ambassador’s Residence.
