SUKKUR: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry said on Saturday that the most important role of the judicial system is to ensure the supremacy of the constitution, Geo News reported.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan was presiding over a law conference here on today which was also be attended by the presidents of all bar councils. He was discussing the role of an independent judiciary while speaking from the occasion.
He said that it is judiciary’s responsibility to ensure that the government and other institutions follow the constitution and did not waver from its fundamentals.
Moreover, the Chief Justice said that the constitution gives protection to the fundamental rights of the people and that the courts are working for peace and stability in the society. He said that independent judiciary is still continuing its journey that began in 2007.
He also expressed his concern over what he said were the falling standards of education in the country.
Earlier upon arrival at Sukkur airport on Friday, a very warm welcome was accorded to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry.
He was accompanied by the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, Justice Mushir Alam.
