KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is observing a country-wide ‘day of mourning’ on Saturday to denounce what it terms ‘extra-judicial killing’ of its workers by the law enforcement agencies.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar had said the Rabita (coordination) Committee decided to observe a day of mourning across the country against what he called discriminatory operation of Rangers and police in Karachi.

A protest march from Liaquatabad to Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum would also be staged on Sunday in this regard, he added.

The MQM leader went on to say that a new wave of extra-judicial killing of his party’s activists has commenced in the city. “Custodial killing of four party workers was carried out last night… three MQM activists were killed a day before too,” said Dr Sattar.

He demanded that the culprits behind the crime must be brought to justice after due investigation.
