Presidential election: Results to be announced on same day

ISLAMABAD: The results of the presidential election will be announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday, the same day on which polling for the coveted post is due to be held.

According to an ECP notification, a letter has been written to High Court registrars directing them to fax the result after the voting concludes.

Parliamentarians will elect a new president on Tuesday between 10 AM and 3 PM.

The election is being contested by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) representative Mamnoon Hussain and Pakistan Tenreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Justice (retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed.

Earlier, the Pakistan People’s Party withdrew their candidate Raza Rabbani and boycotted the election in protest to the date of polls being changed.
