KARACHI: Police on Thursday night apprehended three more workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in connection with burning of vehicles in the megapolis during last 24 hours.
The number of vehicles torched in the city reached six as unknown miscreants set a coaster ablaze in Landhi after getting the passengers offloaded. Earlier, a minibus was torched on National Highway near Manzil Pump while a car was set ablaze in the Landhi no. 6 locality.
The incidents saw fire tenders rushing to the sites to put out the blaze. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have so far been reported.
Police, however, rounded up three more MQM activists from Bhains Colony area, allegedly involved in torching buses. Three more suspects affiliated with the party are already under custody of the law enforcers.
Earlier to this, Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Ahmed Maher said that the suspects involved in torching the vehicles would be nabbed soon.
He said that the case was being investigated professionally, adding that the incidents had political motives. Maher reassured the transporters to not be afraid of.
The events followed similar incidents that took place in the wee hours of Thursday, when three buses and a truck were set ablaze in different parts of the metropolis.
Unknown miscreants had burnt three buses in North Nazimabad, Lee Market and Labour Square Landhi areas. A truck was also set ablaze in Federal B Area Block 6, according to police.
The MQM Pakistan Rabita Committee, in a statement, had condemned the arson incidents saying that it deems it as an effort to spread unrest in the megapolis.
It had also called for immediate arrest of those involved in burning vehicles overnight.
