KARACHI: A 13-year-old identified as Faraz was killed while 18 including women and children were injured in a hand grenade blast outside the Dar-e-Abbas Imambargah located in the Liaqatabad area of the city, police said on Monday.

The Bomb Disposal Squad prepared an initial report on the blast.

According to sources, the report said that a cracker bomb was used in the imambargah attack.

The initial report stated that 600-700 grams of ball bearings and explosives were used in the explosion, sources said.

Additional IG Police, Mushtaq Maher said security was being provided to all Majalis during the month of Muharram. "We are evaluating why there was a security lapse during this Majlis," Maher added.

Earlier, an eyewitness said suspects riding motorcycles had hurled hand grenades at the Imambargah.
