ISLAMABAD: Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali, who was recently appointed as lead counsel to represent Pakistan in the Kulbushan Jadhav case in the International Court of Justice, was admitted to a hospital on Thursday following chest pain.

Sources said the AG was shifted to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology and is currently under treatment.

On May 20, Ali announced that he will be heading Pakistan’s legal team in the Kulbushan Jadhav case.

Ausaf had remarked that the country’s defence against India’s case before the ICJ was prepared by the government in consultation with all stakeholders, including the military establishment, after reports surfaced of Pakistan not putting up a good case in the international court.

The AG had said that the lawyer who defended Pakistan’s case before the ICJ — Khawar Qureshi — has not only represented Pakistan in international arbitration in the past, but was also cleared by the army and intelligence agencies to fight this highly-sensitive case.
