Mohajir Qaumi Movement worker Hammad was shot dead in apparent target killing

KARACHI: A worker of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement political party was shot dead Thursday night outside his residence in Lines Area, authorities said, in what appears to be yet another incident of target killing.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Hammad, was also an employee of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA). He was sitting outside his house when unidentified assailants opened fire on him.

At least nine shells from a 9mm pistol were recovered from the crime scene, police said.

Suspects arrested in encounters

Separately, several suspects were arrested in encounters in Chanesar Goth and near Safari Park. Two suspects — identified as Asif and Yahya — were arrested in a wounded state from Chanesar Goth and booked for street crimes.

Near Safari Park, a street criminal, identified as Izzat Khan, was arrested — also in a wounded state — alongside his accomplice. A first information report was filed against the suspects, police said.

On the other hand, a confidential tip led authorities to conduct a raid on the manufacturing site of a gutka-seller in the Esa Nagri neighbourhood.

The raid culminated in police recovering some 1,200 kilogrammes of gutka, betel nut, slaked lime (chuna), and beedi water, while two suspects were also arrested.
