KARACHI: Late Pakistani model Rubab Shafiq's body was dumped at the Moach Goth graveyard by a fake doctor, her assistant — both of whom had performed the abortion that went wrong — as well as the deceased's friend, Umar.

According to police, Shafiq's friend Umar had brought her to the woman doctor for an abortion but when her condition deteriorated and she died, the group put the body in a car, dumped it in a local graveyard and fled.

Further, in order to hide all evidence, they threw away her phone on the way, and Umar, the friend and the primary suspect, left Karachi. While he is still on the run, police said the doctor and her assistant have been arrested.

The doctor and her assistant, police officials noted, confessed to the crime. They also said they had not been given permission to expand the search for Umar outside of the province.

The late model's body was recovered on February 22, 2019, from Moach Goth graveyard, whereafter it was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Consequently, her family arrived at the medical facility and identified her as Shafiq.

At the time, the bereaved family had said Shafiq had gone with her friend, Umar, and had not returned home for two days. Latest communication, however, revealed that Umar had taken her to a fake doctor in the metropolis' Gulzar-e-Hijri area, where, during the abortion procedure, she passed away.

In a video statement, the late model's family termed her death as murder, appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan and other officials for the arrest of Umar, the primary suspect, and asked for strict punishment for all the perpetrators.
