PPP position on resignation from assemblies remains the same: Qamar Zaman Kaira

LAHORE: PPP's position on the issue of resignations by lawmakers from assemblies is still unchanged, says PPP Central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira.

He said the party believed in a joint struggle and backed the idea of resigning from the assemblies, but at an appropriate time.

Kaira was addressing a press conference with PPP Central Secretary Information Faisal Karim Kundi and PPP Punjab Parliamentary leader Syed Hassan Murtaza in Lahore on Tuesday.

The slot of opposition leader in the Senate was not a matter of life and death for PPP, Kaira said, adding that the PPP never wanted any cracks in the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

He shared that PPP will hold negotiations with the PDM leadership after a meeting of the party’s central executive committee on April 4.

Kaira said the allegation that the PPP was changing its stance was not true.

He said all political parties would have to gather on one platform to bring a change in letter and spirit. All decisions will be taken by PDM through consensus, not through majority vote, he said.

Nation watching those who have harmed PDM: PML-N's Ahsan Iqbal

PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal, meanwhile, said on the same day that the nation is watching everyone who has harmed PDM.

"If all parties resign from the assemblies, the government will fall in 24 hours. We had told the PPP to only resign from the National Assembly, and stay in the government in Sindh," the PML-N leader said.

He said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) wanted to make Pakistan Opposition-free.

Iqbal said he would not comment on the statements of PPP leaders Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. "Our target is [Prime Minister] Imran Khan. We will avoid rhetoric and a change of the government is our target," he said.

He said the PDM had already decided that the leader of the opposition in the Senate would be from the PML-N. He hoped that the PPP would respect the decision.
