Justin Baldoni opened up about an awkward moment with Britney Spears during a January 2017 interview with Fuse on the set of Jane the Virgin.

During the interview, Baldoni reflected on an incident where he misread his dynamic with Spears, while she guest-starred on the show in its second season.

In regards to this, Baldoni shared, “I know she was a fan of the show. We were shooting, and a few of us who weren’t in scenes with her came to watch one of her scenes. Because I had tweeted her and she tweeted me back, I thought we were friends—but we weren’t. I went up and gave her a big hug, and I think I scared her.”

According to US Weekly, Baldoni, who played Rafael Solano in the series from 2014 to 2019, recalled his co stars laughing at the exchange, leaving him to question, “Did I just harass Britney Spears?”

Moreover, the actor admitted that he was a longtime fan of the pop icon, saying, “I was a huge Britney Spears fan in high school. What adolescent boy wasn’t? The guest star I was most excited to work with was Britney Spears. And then it turned out I didn’t get to work with her. There were zero scenes with Rafael and Britney Spears—probably at her request.”

Additionally, Spears appeared in Jane the Virgin as herself in a season 2 episode, delighting fans with her cameo.

As per the publication, the resurfaced interview clip emerged as Baldoni’s high-profile legal dispute has been going on with his It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively.

In December 2024, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment and a “hostile work environment” on set.

As per the outlet's claims, the suit also accuses Baldoni of launching a “social manipulation” campaign to tarnish Lively’s reputation.

Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, dismissed the allegations as “completely false, outrageous, and intentionally salacious,” claiming the lawsuit was an attempt to “rehash a narrative” about the film’s production.
