Pamela Anderson has described the Gia Coppola-directed film as “the best payback” after Hulu’s controversial 2022 series Pam & Tommy.
The limited series, which starred Lily James and Sebastian Stan, dramatized the unauthorized release of Anderson and Tommy Lee’s infamous sex tape, a chapter of her life she has publicly criticized.
In a recent interview on SiriusXM with Andy Cohen, Anderson reiterated her disdain for the Hulu series, calling it “so strange,” “hurtful,” and “bizarre.”
In regards to this, she said, “I think ethically it’s illegal. But I mean, it’s kind of fair game. I remember people telling me long ago that you are basically public property and you have no right to privacy.”
According to Deadline, the memoir and cookbook author also noted that Hulu never reached out to her to address her concerns.
In this regard, she explained, “I don’t dwell on it, but it was kind of a strange thing to pick a very terrible time of my life and make entertainment out of it.”
Moreover, Anderson further reflected on the irony of others winning awards for portraying her life.
While citing an observation made by Deadline’s Pete Hammond, she remarked, “All these people have won awards basically playing you, but not you. It’s not the actor’s fault. I’m sure she’s a great actress and all. I don’t care. It happened, and now I’m here, and this is the best payback. I’m being seen and recognized for my work, not those tawdry moments.”
Additionally, while Pam & Tommy earned nine Emmy nominations and a win for makeup, the show was based on a 2014 Rolling Stone article chronicling the events surrounding the tape’s illicit release.
Meanwhile, Anderson, who had no involvement in the series, has repeatedly expressed disappointment in the project’s depiction of such a painful period in her life.
