Ringo Starr had just entered his teenagehood when he got fixated on becoming a drummer.

The Beatles drummer, 84, recently opened up about his career and the famed former rock band in an interview with Far Out Magazine.

Starr recalled how the idea to become a drummer dawned on him when he was hospitalised with tuberculosis.

“When I was 13, I was in hospital. We were all in bed with tuberculosis, and the music teacher came around to keep us busy. He gave me a little drum, and from that minute, I wanted to be a drummer,” Starr told the publication.

"I look at myself now; I’m still doing this, and that’s what’s far out," he continued.

The outlet also noted that despite the criticism the drummer used to face in public scrutiny, Starr was one of the few people who stayed behind after his gig and listened to The Beatles play, always drinking bourbon at the bar as the Threetles sang their hearts out with Pete Best behind the kit.

April 10th marked the 55th anniversary of The Beatles' breakup. Now, Sam Mendes has announced four Beatles films to be released theatrically in April 2028.

The filmmaker also confirmed the casting of Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon.

“It’s a chance to understand them more deeply,” Mendes promised when he announced the news at CinemaCon in March.

The film is also the first narrative feature to be granted music rights to the Beatles’ extensive catalog of hits such as Strawberry Fields, Let It Be, I Am the Walrus, and Yellow Submarine among others.
